Abstract Sustainable development is one of the objectives of the European integration process, and this is established by the fundamental EU regulations. The Treaty of Lisbon established the normative bases of environmental policy and energy policy, which are developed through strategies, plans and legislative acts that try to achieve the objective of sustainable development. The most recent advances are the "circular economy" and "clean energy" legislative packages.
