Title Someone'S Garbage Is Someone Else'S Treasure - Cross-Sectoral Integration In Circular Economy

Abstract In the age of greater concern about the limited resources and maximizing the efficiency of their use, the "circular economy" would serve as the best solution for closing loops in industrial ecosystems, minimizing waste and recycling the remains of the production process. In this regard a cross-sectoral integration between different industries would deliver more opportunities for mutual cooperation and remanufacturing and reuse of each sector leftovers. Rural tourism has evolved as an alternative to the mass tourism, and has proved to utilize resources which have been discarded or in waste for the forestry sector (e.g. sawdust used to pave trails; remaining materials used to build benches, or for decoration; old agricultural equipment used in museums, for decoration or for learning workshops, etc.). The fact that tourists appreciate as "treasures" the remaining ingredients of forestry may provide numerous possibilities for both sectors to work in symbiosis and contribute to the circular economy. The aim of current paper is to explore the opportunities for integration of circular economy models, using the shared resources of forestry and tourism industries. The study will step on secondary research of similar cases, presented by other authors, and will add to this analysis several examples from North-eastern region of Bulgaria. We will start with the exploration of the impacts of forestry on tourism development, and afterwards will propose insights for further proliferation of circular economy activities, based on the current cooperation and integration of both sectors.
