| Abstract | Each person in Europe produces an average of half a tone of waste on average. Only 40% of them are reused or recycled, and in some countries more than 80% of the quantity goes to landfills. An economy that extracts resources at an ever-increasing rate without regard to the environment in which it operates and the natural planetary boundaries can not continue indefinitely. We need a new way ofdoing business. The paper will centralize the information in an accessible form to identify the characteristics of the circular economy and at the same time to compare the linear economy to circular economy. The information presented in this paper is of interest in many areas. Firstly, at the utility and environmental level, the population can see the high efficiency of the circular products, the lower prices they own and the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through their use. For the economic environment, it is possible to highlight the reducedpressure on limited natural resources and the possibility of creating jobs. The business environment will begin to realize the implications on profits in a circular economy. The authors highlight new business opportunities that can be adopted using the circular economy. Results are presented indicating that substantial savings can be obtained on the cost of materials in the manufacturing process. This study concentrates a review of the literature to identify and classify the characteristics ofthe circular economy according to the structure ofthe business model. The methodology used consisted in conducting a bibliographic research, including data from the last 10 years, in order to have a relevant and up-to-date character. Using Google Trends, this article analyzed the search tendency of some keywords that belong to the circular economy domain, in order for those interested in this domain to easily access the business models, and thus these models to develop as widely as possible. |
