Abstract Roadmap to climate-neutral steel construction The steel industry can potentially save significant amounts of CO2. Both with hydrogen and with green electricity, the reduction potentials in steel production are considerable. With the help of direct reduction using natural gas, significant CO2 reductions can already be achieved for the transition. Another important component of a climate-neutral steel industry is scrap-based electric steel production. The role of steel as an essential component in the circular economy is already established by the economically functioning scrap trade. This article shows all the potential and levers of building with steel for a CO2-neutral future.
