Year 2023
Published International Journal Of Transport Economics, 50, 3-4
Abstract center dot Purpose : The paper aims to analyze the current situation of the main seaport in Romania, based on internal and external environmental factors, and to formulate potential strategies to ensure its sustainable development. Design/methodology/approach : Data collection has been done by the specialists in the maritime port field (members of the National Company Administratia Porturilor Maritime SA Constanta (CNAPM) and by the directors within the port), providing a grounded perspective on the need to develop and rank strategies, that aims a sustainable development. Based on the processing of the collected data, the SWOT analysis was carried out, this being the starting point in defining the most appropriate strategies, aimed at minimizing the negative impact on the environment. The classification of the defined strategies was carried out using the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method, based on the vector of the global priorities. The main findings : The strategies were classified in descending order as follows : the development of the port infrastructure for alternative fuels (SO1), the implementation of the infrastructure and OPS (Onshore Power Supply) equipment in the port (WO), strengthening the position of the port through more sustainable forms of international connectivity (WT1), intelligent traffic management (WT2), expanding technologies that use hydrogen in the port (SO2) and implementing circular economy initiatives in the port (ST). Originality/value : This research can be useful, both to actors in the maritime industry and to researchers, as such a study has been carried out for the first time for a Romanian seaport.
