Abstract | Glass is a recyclable material; however, its recycling offers only small economic benefits owing to its low material value. For glass recycling to be economically viable, its conversion into high-value products is essential. Fluorescent light tube (FLT) glass is a transparent and colorless thin soda-lime glass with a tin oxide (SnO2) thin film on the inner wall. In this study, the properties of FLT glass were characterized, and decorative products were developed based on these properties. The cullet was filled into a mold and heated, and fully fused glass with a unique pattern attributed to a thin film was obtained. The glass was fully fused above 800 degrees C, and the disappearance of the pattern was observed at 900 degrees C. Based on these properties, high-value products, such as wall decorations and accessories, were developed. These products improve the environmental awareness of students, factory employees, and other citizens, as they are formed by the conversion of waste into upcycled products via the exploitation of glass properties. Additionally, they contribute to the growth of a circular economy using a sustainable process. |
