Abstract The determination of "dual-carbon" puts forward more stringent requirements for methane emission reduction in the coal industry. Gas extraction technology, as an important means of methane emission reduction in the un-derground coal mining, is of great significance for concentrating and improving gas utilization efficiency and reducing ventilation gas escape. How to achieve green low-carbon operation of the gas extraction technology system is one of the key tasks for the sustainable development of the coal industry. Based on the characteristics of China's coal-based energy endowment and the difficulty of large-scale application of carbon-negative technol-ogies, we took coal mine methane extraction technology as the entry point for our research. With the objectives of technological innovation and equipment upgrading, we have conducted an in-depth study of the key aspects of coal mine methane emission reduction that should be developed in a coordinated manner during the carbon peak and carbon neutrality stages, and the development pathway of AGE under the dual-carbon background was constructed. The sustainable development characteristics of "low-carbonization of the extraction system(L)-accurate drilling construction(A)-intellectualization of equipment development(I)-dynamic regulation of whole process(D)" was proposed at the carbon peak stage, ultimately achieving zero emission from CH4 extraction-low emissions of CO2. At the carbon neutrality stage, the overall planning of the whole industry chain of methane emission reduction should be emphasized, and the means of source management should be continuously implemented. In order to construct a technically reliable-low cost-long term safe carbon emission reduction technology system and ultimately hasten the accomplishment of China's "dual-carbon" strategic goal, full -concentration gas gradient utilization, "CCUS + ecological carbon sink" and other carbon negative technolo-gies will be further strengthened. A literature review was further used to summarize the key technical model and equipment system for AGE, and to describe the limitation, implications and future direction of this research.
