Title Smart City: geomatics aspects of a fuzzy paradigm

Abstract The label smart city is still quite a fuzzy concept and is used in ways that are not always consistent. We endorse the definition that "a city can be defined as 'smart' when investments in human and social capital and traditional (transport) and modern (ICT) communication infrastructure fuel sustainable economic development and a high quality of life, with a wise management of natural resources, through participatory governance". Geomatics provides a set of concepts and tools for the planning and management of Smart Cities (City Sensing, City Model, Proximal Sensing, WIKI Sensing, etc). The Integrated Operations Center (IOC) is the foundation using geographic technologies to join Smart City with Safe City. Smart Grid Systems are a way to make operational the urban sosteneability in the energy sector. Some Intergraph's technologies are used as examples of the contribution of geomatics in the implementation of Smart City paradigm.
