Abstract This essay proposes a conceptual approach for reflections about the smart city concept in law interaction. A multidisciplinary term, "smart city" is examined with regard to its meaning and interpretation possibilities in urban culture and are laid the basis analysis and conceptualization in the legal scene. From these premises, are set interpretative pillars and established connections with Brazilian law, due to the term formation. It was made a literature review on this topic in multidisciplinary views: urban, environmental and technological, due to identify legal fields of the smart city concept study. The results showed the possibility of enlarge broad conceptual connections and conclusions pointed to the setting of a possible terminological and evaluative expansion of the urban bias of sustainable development, to the comprehensive development.
