Abstract The paper underlines the main areas of the Internet of Things field, underlying the changes in consumer behavior. The research is based on several studies and available statistics on Internet of Things: cyber security, mHealth, transport, education, smart city, and smart home. The main findings underline the importance of the investments in Internet of Things field from the point of view of the organizations on one hand and, on the other hand, from the point of view of the consumers. Mobile telecommunications devices will continue to dominate the market in terms of cellular machine-to-machine communications.
