Title Multifunctional Infrastructure Corridors for Connecting Smart Cities

Abstract Transport routes between smart cities for the different modes of transport and power supply lines should take the form of multifunctional infrastructure corridors in the future. As far as operating road traffic is concerned, it will be necessary to design and construct freeways with new functions and features. There will need to be lanes for normal vehicles and separate lanes where vehicles drive automatically within the cross section. The generating process for eco-friendly electric energy could take place using solar panels on the surface (solar road) or as overhead units located across the road, in addition to wind turbines located in the free space along the corridor. The results of a research project have shown that it is possible to draw up an energy balance for several scenarios. Energy generation using large wind turbines and fields of solar units is already feasible as a cost-effective method in a real scenario and can cover about 30% of energy requirements.
