Title Scientific Landscape of Smart City Concept: A Bibliometric Analysis
Year 2018
Published
Abstract The smart city concept has gained increased attention among researchers, policymakers and practitioners in the recent years but its essence is still understood in an unclear and inconsistent way. In this context, a bibliometric analysis was conducted of publications from the Web of Science database for the 1991-2018 period. The performed analysis aimed to identify the main research areas and categories of studies on the smart city, as well as the papers, journals, authors and countries with the most substantive contributions to literature. The paper delivers comprehensive knowledge on past and present research on the smart city concept and discusses the possible future in the area. Therefore, the research gaps and issues with potential future contribution are also presented.
