Abstract The new trends and approaches in spatial economics include circular economics, new economic geography, and model core-periphery to achieve sustainable resource management and economic processes. These three segments were described and evaluated in this study. These trends represent the foundation of expert knowledge systems' development and programming within broad activities' digitalization. Such systems are rapidly increasing globally, especially from the point of view of the digitalization of knowledge. As a consequence of globalization, there is a large amount of information that needs to be processed appropriately. In all areas of human activity, only digital knowledge can serve structures and managers to make the fastest and highest quality decisions as a basis for economic efficiency and growth. The implementation of geoinformation technologies in economics already offers numerous processing advantages, which are expected to be further expanded with GIS and remote sensing technology.
