Title Another Chance For People And Things: The Objects Pawned At The Monti Di Pieta
Year 2022
Published Anuario De Estudios Medievales, 52, 1
Abstract The Monte di Pieta, a public citizen bank active in Italy since 1462, implemented the cardinal principles of the circular economy: to make products as durable and efficient as possible and, consequently, to reduce waste by also upgrading assets that apparently could no longer be used. The Monte received garments from the "poorest of the poor" and in return granted them some credit money. This offered the Monti's clients and objects a second chance and prevented those who were in a situation of distress from ending up in a state of irretrievable poverty.
