Abstract | In the 21st century, the development and utilization of underground space becomes one of the important contents of urban development and construction in Beijing. In 2001, Beijing took the nationwide lead in preparing the "underground space master plan". During the ten years thereafter, Beijing has been actively engaged in the practice and promotion of underground space planning and construction, and such projects are widespread in both Old City and New Town areas. The construction forms and contents of underground space cover various urban functions such as transport, municipal infrastructure, business, culture, sports and so on. However, compared with other domestic and foreign cities which are more succeed in underground space planning and construction, Beijing still has lots of deficiencies in this aspect that need to be further explored and improved. Based on analyzing and summarizing the major problems in Beijing's urban underground space planning and construction, this paper will explore relevant recommendations on development objectives and thinking, propose models and contents in further work. The main contents consist of establishing and improving the administration system, policies, regulations, planning preparations and so on. It aims at exploring a feasible path for the scientific, reasonable and orderly development and utilization of Beijing's urban underground space, seeking broader space for the sustainable urban development of Beijing. |
