Title Case Analysis of Photovoltaic System Shared by a Small Enterprise and a Household

Abstract The Renewable Energy Act (German: EEG 2017) manages the development of renewable energy (RE) sources in Germany. According to the EEG 2017, decision makers can choose among several business models for operating RE plants: sole self-consumption, sole feeding to the grid, a mix of both, and selling to third parties. This paper presents a case analysis of the business model selling to third parties and considers photovoltaic (PV) systems without a storage system, which is shared by a small enterprise and a private household in north-western Germany. This business model is then compared with the option excluding the private household as an additional consumer. For the analysis, the PREmdeK simulation was used, which simulates the energy supply between the consumers (enterprise and household) and producers (PV system and grid). For the case analysis, the indicators Net Present Value and CO2 emission reduction are considered. The results suggest that the business model selling to households as a third party might be economical and environmentally feasible. This suggestion is based on two indicators only. For a clear recommendation on a specific case, specific case economic benefits and environmental impacts must be considered. (C) 2018 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
