Abstract |
The paint industry generates significant amounts of wastewater, posing environmental challenges due to its intricate chemical composition. Untreated wastewater can lead to pollution, threatening aquatic life and groundwater quality. To address these issues and promote sustainability, recent scientific advancements in wastewater treatment techniques have been made. This review outlines the current state of paint industry wastewater management, explores the latest trends, and discusses emerging technologies and innovative approaches. A systematic analysis of previous and the latest existing research works was presented in order to explore the evolution of this line of research. It also examines the potential for a circular economy and identifies gaps in knowledge, areas for further research, and potential barriers to widespread implementation. By promoting the adoption of advanced treatment techniques, the paint industry can mitigate its environmental footprint, uphold regulatory compliance, and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future. |
