Abstract |
The scale of projected infrastructure financing in the UK and internationally is enormous, while this infrastructure's conception, design, procurement and construction will necessarily have a major impact on short-term and long-term sustainable development. This paper seeks to establish methods of finance and insurance selection that facilitate sustainable design and construction techniques to improve the liveability, sustainability and resilience of infrastructure and cities. Furthermore, it establishes criteria for the financing and insurance of infrastructure, to enable selection of organisations providing products and services that have sustainability at the heart of their operations and by extension mandate the retention of sustainability at the core of any infrastructure programme. This paper introduces the concept of 'restorative infrastructure' in city transformation and demonstrates that substantial savings are possible compared with the current practice with the introduction of improved financial and insurance selection. |
