Abstract In the modern globalizing world, the understanding of quality and quality management has become an integral part of the business world. Models and standards have different evaluation criteria and principles, but they have a common objective - to support competitive, balanced and sustainable corporate development. The purpose of the article is to evaluate and develop four main business process management spheres: resource management, document management, determination of management competence, managing efficiency and improvement. The main emphasis of this research is on process analysis, measurement and development, thereby optimising processes and reducing resource consumption in a company. In this research, analytical, comparative and social research method methods have been used. Conclusions are made about the quality management system implementation, as an effective management tool, as well as a factor for increasing competiveness. Summarising the results of the study, the following findings and recommendations can be made: Quality awareness is essential for increasing competitiveness of private sector businesses; In order to ensure continuous development, companies need to undergo self-assessment by using the TQM philosophy; The authors believe that quality assurance is one of the most important factors in crisis situations and for the promotion of economic growth; The number of companies that implement various quality management systems is increasing worldwide, but very slowly. By ensuring total quality management in an international business environment, the common understanding of the corporate objectives can be achieved - it promotes national competitiveness in an international environment and increases productivity.
