Abstract In the current era of sustainability development, supply chains in the business industry are concentrating on product recycling, waste reduction programmes and the appropriate disposal of expired goods. Organizing inventories under a supply chain framework with the motto to minimise carbon emission is crucial for economic advancement and expansion. This study develops a carbon tax-regulated sustainable inventory system in an attempt to reduce the impact of carbon emissions (from product manufacturing, remanufacturing, waste disposal, storage and deterioration) when manufacturing and remanufacturing with multiple retailers are taken into account. One of the most important components of effective corporate operations is the integration of production and marketing strategies. This study offers a trade credit financing policy in an effort to encourage more customers, increase product sales and thus grow business efficiently. Finding the optimum total profit under the influence of forward and backward supply chain systems is the primary objective of this paper. To solve the optimisation problem and generate an optimal solution for the optimal time and profit, an algorithm is established. Several numerical examples are used to illustrate the model, and then a sensitivity analysis is conducted to look into how important parameters affect the optimal solution. A graphical representation of concavity is provided, and key findings are examined to glean some management insights. The obtained results highlight that the overall profit of the integrated system varies noticeably with respect to parameters related to carbon emission activity. The results offer organisations and businesses wishing to develop environmentally conscious production systems a variety of managerial information and instructive insights.
