Abstract In the last few decades, the Suwung landfill site has been used by Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan, which are all part of the Sarbagita area. Using the system dynamics model method, the study aims to examine various alternative policy scenarios to maximize waste management at the source and determine their effect on waste carried to the Suwung landfill. Three scenarios are simulated: business as usual (BAU), implementation of the Regional strategy policy (RSP) for waste management, and optimization of the informal (INF) sector. According to the modeling results from 2020 to 2050, the four regions cannot entirely rely on the Suwung TPA's limited processing capability. Increasing the role of residents by maximizing their motivation and optimizing the informal roles in each region remains crucial. The simulation reveals that the RSP scenario is the best option when considering the amount of waste that must be managed, the need for integrated waste processing sites, and environmental emissions, despite requiring more waste processing facilities. The RSP scenario is carried out by raising awareness among residents to manage waste in their homes through the enhanced implementation of government policies. The model validation shows that the dynamic system can be used to investigate how different aspects should be considered when planning sustainable waste management.
