Abstract World economic downfalls have determined companies to look for ways to become more flexible and sustainable in the context of a fast changing environment. The market mechanisms in the agri-food industry have become increasingly complex and managers are becoming aware about the need for new management tools. This paper aims to present the elaboration process of an integrated business model in the agri-food business sector. The model's goal is to provide a valuable decision support for food companies in the context of today's economic challenges. Hypothesis development, model conceptualization, operationalization and validity measurement stages are analyzed and presented in order to better demonstrate the opportunity and benefits of model creation and development. The expected outcomes at both company and industry level - after the implementation of the new business model - are also evaluated.
