Abstract The Internet has brought about the disruption of the business model of commodifled journalism, mainly because it reduces the value of advertising. It is important to understand the phenomenon and the solutions found by traditional companies and journalists, considering that journalism is essential for democracy. This article analyzes the innovation reports of The New York Times compared to changes in Infoglobo newspapers in Rio de Janeiro. It concludes that there must be direct public funding, and that the various journalism initiatives on the internet may lead to a quality and sustainable digital journalism.
