Abstract |
Phoenix dactylifera date palm is a vital agricultural plant of the Arabic region. The volume of date pits (DPs) generated by date processing industries is enormous and requires special consideration due to the presence of vital bioactive compounds. In viewpoint of the ever-increasing worldwide environmental problems at large, the usage of sustainable treatment methods has become a scientific and industrial movement in recent years. This review concentrates on the employment of DP-based materials, an alternative environmental clean-up ingredient, in different ecosystems. Composed of phytochemical, lignocellulose and oil fractions, DPs are more appropriate for pollutant removal. So as to obtain a proper environment by using these eco-friendly and alternative environmental clean-up ingredients, several aspects have to be considered. In this regard, here we review the latest progress in the art about DP-based materials used in environmental clean-up. In addition, this is in accordance with international trends of sustainable development and circular economy creation. An extensive study and comparison of literature available data reveal that DPs can be employed as a potential adsorbent for diverse toxic contaminant kinds such as heavy metals, pesticides, dyes, phenol compounds, gases and other pollutants. |
