Abstract The aim of this article is to study the role of the sustainable leader in the adoption of circular economy practices in industrial production processes. From the analysis of the profile of managers focused on circular practices of an organization located in the Midwest of Santa Catarina, the study seeks to describe the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values of leaders, as well as analyze how leaders orchestrate their attributes and beliefs. Data were collected using an in-depth interview script, questionnaire, observation script and company website. The results show that leaders who have sustainable values are able to activate the circular economy more easily. The followers seek to find moral and ethical values in their leaders. In this way, it was possible to validate the three propositions presented in this study. The study helps to highlight the importance of sustainability-oriented leadership within organizations, as well as to elucidate the development of circular economy practices. As a practical and applied contribution, it elucidates several circular economy practices that can be used as alternatives to make industrial production processes cleaner and in line with the precepts of resource circularity.
