Abstract Ecological efficiency is an important indicator of ecological economy with its essence is to measure regional sustainable development. It reflects the efficiency of regional economic development in effectively using resources to reduce environmental pressure. Financial agglomeration is of great significance in promoting regional economic growth and improving ecological efficiency. This paper collected the economic and ecological development data of six provinces in South China from 2009 to 2018 and established the index system of regional financial agglomeration and ecological efficiency by combing projection pursuit weighting method with DEA. An empirical analysis on the ecological economic development of six provinces and their three spatial regions in South China was conducted through the calculation and descriptive statistical analysis of the comprehensive index value. The results show that the coupling degree of the ternary system at the provincial level is relatively low, and the coordinated development of the system is at high or extremely high degree.
