Abstract Electronic procurement (eP) and Sustainable procurement (SP) have been mainly studied and promoted as separate topics. Hence, the lack of an integration framework for promoting eP and SP in the construction industry deprives the opportunities of optimising resource deployment. This study aims to review and analyse literature towards the development of an integration framework for promoting eP and SP in the construction industry. Through a three-stage systematic review process, 74 papers were identified and analysed using inducive and deductive approaches. A total of 22 and 16 promotion strategies were identified for eP and SP, respectively, and were subsequently synthesised to develop an integration framework for promoting eP and SP. To achieve the integration, a guiding set of practices and approaches are highlighted in the framework development. This study contributes to the body of knowledge by developing an integration framework that can help industry practitioners, policy makers, and researchers promote eP and SP in the construction industry. Directions for future research are proposed to address the gaps in literature and enhance effective research towards promoting eP and SP. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
