Abstract |
The framework for circular analytical chemistry is presented alongside twelve goals and corresponding actions to facilitate the transition to a resource-efficient, closed-loop, and waste-free analytical chemistry sector. Drawing upon knowledge from circular economy, circular chemistry, sustainability, and greenness in analytical chemistry, we provide a framework that encompasses the entire life cycle of products and decouples analytical performance from the rates of resource consumption. Circular analytical chemistry extends beyond the green aspects of analytical methods and requires a strong alliance of all stakeholders to transform the entire system of production, consumption, and waste. The diverse nature of the twelve goals, their interconnectedness and varying contexts allow stakeholders to prioritize them based on their relevance to their core objectives. The alignment of analytical chemistry with circular economy, and the integration of sustainability considerations, presents a timely opportunity and a necessary paradigm shift for the sector to support global actions towards sustainable development. |
