| Abstract |
This paper presents the results of a research project based on water consumption monitoring, in the food industry, using low-cost technology. The project carried out forty-three monitoring campaigns in 17 companies. The project has identified a potential saving of more than 1 million liters of water per day for those companies. The project also certified important savings in water use for some companies in the cleaning or sterilization processes. Furthermore, we present four barriers identified during data collection and during the analysis of process improvement opportunities, which hinder the use of technology to make water management more sustainable. |
