| Abstract |
Product service systems (PSS) can be viewed as one approach towards more sustainable production and consumption. This chapter outlines the reasons why PSS could be a useful approach to sustainability in the future. In particular it highlights the three main types of PSS, product oriented, use oriented and results oriented, which can be considered by designers wanting to make the shift away from purely product focussed approaches. By understanding the benefits of each type of PSS a designer will be able to choose the best option to help develop an integrated system of products and services which can provide benefits for both the customer and the environment. |
