Abstract |
A Fish Waste Hydrolysate (FWH) was prepared from fish waste and was evaluated its potential for use in Penaeus vannamei culture. FWH applied @ 20 ppm in two split application was found to be optimum for phytoplankton abundance, diversity and higher (< 0.01) specific growth rate (SGR) and total biomass gain of shrimp. Supplementation of FWH significantly (P <.01) increased average daily gain (ADG), SGR, total biomass gain and survival of P. vannamei compared to control even at 30% less feed in tank system. Subsequent pond trial of P. vannamei with FWH supplementation showed higher growth and survival which might be due to higher abundance and diversity of phytoplankton and zooplankton. Therefore, it can be concluded that FWH supplementation can improve the production of P. vannamei when applied @ 20 ppm in a split dose and can save 30% of feed in P. vannamei culture. |
