Abstract The international university challenge UrbanFarm2020 called upon students from several countries to form interdisciplinary teams working on innovative solutions for the regeneration of three abandoned industrial areas. The Hop-E team with its SIEPE project (Sustainability, Inclusion, Energy, Production, Environment) addressed the renovation of the Ex-SIAPA, a vacant industrial site in the town of Galliera (Bologna). The project proposal aims to restore the town by fostering sustainable economic, cultural, and social growth through soilless agriculture and circular economy tools.
