Abstract |
A strategy to materialize the environmental sustainability of supply chains is the Circular Economy (CE), considering the thermodynamic limitations. This research encompasses perspectives on circular economy in the context of chemical engineering and sustainable development. Chemical engineering (ChemE) deals with the transformation of raw materials into final useful products, supported by sustainability science as a knowledge domain for a more responsible practice of ChemE. The CE aim is to make production processes more sustainable: to maintaining materials in a useful state in products for as long as possible, avoiding material losses, dissipation or hibernation, and emissions to the environment or technosphere. Principal strategies to reach CE aim are use of efficient technologies, efficient use of resources, and minimization and valorization of waste/emissions. |
