Abstract Using data covering 50 countries from 2014 to 2018, this study investigates the impact of digital trade restrictiveness (DTR) on green technology innovation (GTI). Our findings indicate that DTR has a detrimental impact on GTI. We further show that this negative effect can be explained through channels of international technology collaboration (ITC) and international technology diffusion (ITD). Finally, our group tests results indicate that increasing innovation input, promoting democracy and setting up carbon trading markets can mitigate the negative impact of DTR on GTI.
