Abstract |
Digital currency has been in circulation for more than a decade and has seen a significant surge in recent years. The market capitalization of Bitcoin alone surpassed $700 billion. Transaction security and privacy are the main reasons for cryptocurrency usage. Unfortunately, bitcoin power usage is massive and mostly unsustainable to keep the system secure and private. As sustainability concern arises, many developers start to work on more sustainable cryptocurrency that are more energy efficient. Six out of ten top cryptocurrencies based on market capitalization can be considered as green cryptocurrencies. Despite the substantial market capitalization of green cryptocurrencies, there is currently a notable gap in research pertaining to the acceptability and adoption of these environmentally conscious digital assets. This study seeks to address this gap by exploring the factors influencing the acceptance of green cryptocurrencies. It is anticipated that the findings from this research will contribute to filling the void in the existing literature, providing valuable insights for the development of more acceptable and sustainable cryptocurrencies in the future.. The theoretical foundation for this study incorporates Davis's Technology Acceptance Model along with Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation theory.. The PRISMA statement is selected by the authors as a guiding framework for this systematic review. Scopus database is chosen to provide studies, twenty-one studies regarding green cryptocurrency were reviewed and resulted in four variables affecting perceived usefulness, 4 possible variables affecting perceived ease of use, and variables affecting Rogers' five factors of the innovation-decision process of green cryptocurrency. Aspects of green cryptocurrency technology is also examined to have effect on the adoption. This study encountered limitations on the accessibility of documents and unfocused region of study. Most variables affecting acceptance of green cryptocurrencies are economic motives instead of sustainability. |
