Abstract |
Blue economy is a very recent concept that has emerged in the world of scientists as an alternative to the green economy that, even seems to be much more sustainable than the gray economy, is very costly. It is still a challenge to transpose the blue economy principles into practical design rules. It is one purpose of this paper to dive deeper into the principles of blue economy and to translate them into guidelines for "blue" innovation. Blue innovation guidelines are translated into blue-design principles, which are further integrated into a design framework called CSDT (Complex System Design Technique). The case study from the field of consumer goods highlights both possibilities and challenges of blue-design to meet basic needs of consumers. It is also shown that structured innovation cannot totally solve the blue economy principles without further discoveries in science and technology. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elseier B.V. |
