Abstract Pavement rehabilitation is crucial in terms of a road life-cycle, improving safety and driving comfort. Most of the pavement rehabilitations make use traditional measuring methods and techniques to reconstruct pavement layers therefore they cannot achieve a required accuracy. These rehabilitations are realized with higher values of deviations than permitted. However, a new proposed methodology of the pavement rehabilitation which uses a 3D measuring can remove or reduce some problems relate to accuracy. Thus, we can improve quality of the whole pavement rehabilitation process and we can achieve required accuracy. During individual phases of the pavement rehabilitation detailed 3D digital models of a road surface are created owing to the 3D measuring. It allows to perform the pavement rehabilitation in the way of principles of Industry 4.0 which relates to the Smart City.
