Abstract |
Modelling a smart city has been the focus of interest from researchers and practitioners since it allows to measure and benchmark smart city performance. The literature has provided plenty of examples of smart city models and key performance indicators. However, the interaction among the domains of these models and its implications for policies recommendation have received limited attention. Based on secondary data this study elaborates a smart city model for Ecuador and applies a fuzzy-set QCA analysis to evaluate how a city can achieve high smart city performance through several combinations of conditions. The results shows that high levels of ICT access, human capital, infrastructure and environmental conditions are determinants for a city to achieve better quality of life and economic development. Additionally, this study offers policies recommendations for smart cities planning. |
