Abstract |
The following paper focuses on the phenomenon of cascading trap of technology within the area of city management. Although technology develops very fast nowadays, we are not able to implement it in a daily life at the same pace, specifically in such ecosystem as a city. Thus, there is a clear lag in the deployment of technologies and services in smart city applications versus what those technologies enable. Therefore, it is crucial to build a bottom-up approach that could support development and implementation of solutions that respond to actual users' needs. In Chapter 1 the main hypothesis of the paper is introduced. Chapter 2 demonstrates how the concept of smart city has changed since early 2000's, from technology driven to citizen co-creation. In Chapter 3 the work outlines two topics. Firstly, the paradigm of technological advances, their development in cities and the concept of cascading trap of technology. Secondly, the major features of smart city and their limitations. In Chapter 4 this paper outlines the concrete solutions on how to combine social and technological innovations.
