Abstract |
PRISMA solutions (Austria) together with TraffiCon (Austria) have developed an intelligent transportation system (ITS) for a virtual smart city called VENUS for the new Research Park of the University Zilina (Slovakia). Besides a network and location-reference manager VENUS also provides infrastructure management (sensors, traffic lights, variable message signs, etc.) as well as complex traffic message management (sensor data, weather messages, road closures, etc.) for the smart city. A permanently running online traffic simulation within VENUS allows the ITS-control center to keep a holistic general overview on the traffic state and through short time traffic predictions to evaluate the net-related impacts. Thus VENUS enriches the ITS with smart elements and allows for a further stepwise application and development of smart city concepts in Zilina. |
