Abstract Urban emotion is a critical aspect for the human-centered city in the Smart City context. As a general approach of public emotion, measuring happiness has is an active focus with great marketing potential since actually, it concerned prominently by the government in recent years. Different authors have measured urban emotion in a variety of ways. Prior spatial-oriented urban emotion measurement tools practice on the macroscale level for the nation and mesoscale level for community result in a lack of microscale level for the street. This paper presents a spatial-oriented microscale measurement approach of urban emotion based on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, which enables a data collection and visualization from human emotion recognition and object recognition technology. By comparing the data visualization maps, the gradual improvement of urban facilities is one of the manifestations elements of urban development, but emotion of citizens is mostly neutral. These results attempt to reveal the structure and interpret a particular connection between urban emotions and facilities. In the sensor-rich future cities, various data can be accumulated from the recognized data proposals and then transferred to contribute in a reference or feedback for the process of urban planning.
