Abstract The restrictions related to the volume and quality of the resources used in economic activities brought as a challenge the reuse of the waste generated by the economic activity and generally by the population. The market is pressuring the producers to obtain high quality at low prices that brings them to the condition of seeking cheaper resources. But the resources are limited, which challenge the producers to find alternative resources and also recycling the resources that can be reused. More, some producers are developing technologies through which are using the waste that are producing in their activities and obtain energy for internal used or for other parts of the economic processes. The paper outlines the best practices in this area in Romanian economy and identifies the challenges for this sector and also the opportunities.
