Abstract Digital transformation (DT) is a phenomenon that has motivated significant changes in private and public organizational dynamics. In the field of public administration, DT has promoted and strengthened the materialization of the concept of the smart city (SC) across the world. This article aims to present and discuss some initiatives implemented in the city of Osasco, Sao Paulo (Brazil), looking to build a smarter city. To this end, a qualitative and exploratory methodological approach was used, based on a study, with data collection carried out in primary and secondary sources in 2023. The results showed the implementation of information and communications technologies (ICT) has contributed to the creation of innovations valued by society while transforming it into a smarter city, desired by talents and large companies, especially those intensive in ICT. This work intends to contribute to the agenda of research and discussions on the management of municipalities, reflecting on the concepts of digital transformation and smart city as a practice enabling the sustainable development of cities.
