| Abstract |
The concepts of smart cites and smart villages as concepts of rural and rural development have recently been presented as two separate areas of urban and rural development in the EU. The aim of the paper is to present European Union initiatives and policies through which these concepts are developed and implemented in the EU. In the introductory part of the paper we point out some differences and specifics in the smart village applications to the rural environment. In the main part of the paper we describe the EU documents and their connection with the implementation of the smart village concept. In the final part we analyze the situation in the Slovak Republic. |
