Abstract |
This prologue presents the connecting thread of the articles grouped in this special issue: the new political subjects in the post-metropolis. In first place, the link between politics and the urban reality in which political subjects are created is described. Secondly, current cities -in which more than half of the world's population already live- are analyzed, showing how their operation makes them different from previous cities and metropolises. The most prominent sociopolitical characteristics, problems and challenges faced by the inhabitants of these urban realities, whose fundamental feature is that they are smart cities, are investigated with a multidisciplinary approach. Both in terms of the topics studied and the methodologies used, this special issue is fully aligned with the Spanish Strategy for Science and Technology and Innovation, and with the 2020 Horizon Framework Program. |
