Abstract |
One of the biggest challenges in the world is to overcome major problems related to fast growing cities. Just using the expression "Smart City" is insufficient. In the last 10 years there have been many initiatives executed on what regional, national and international governing bodies called Smart City Construction. From experiences we learned that nowadays many renewed actions with large investments on Smart City Programs and Projects are needed. As a matter of fact, the term " Smart City" is often misinterpreted and its meaning is "enlarged" to include things that have not much to do with the term "smart", which is about including intelligence in systems and processes. To include intelligence, one needs to "sense", communicate (often remotely), process the sensed data to gain awareness and take decisions according to it. All these aspects are included in the Conasense concept. This chapter is divided into three sections. Section 1.1 is the introduction on Smart City partly general but partly dedicated on Smart City from a Conasense Perspective. Examples as problems related to a Green Smart City with stringent requirements on air quality, and green transport without traffic congestions do not have solutions yet and, therefore ask for new and fundamental approaches. In this section special attention is given to recently started plans and projects on Smart City in China and India, two countries who face daily the benefits but also the immense problems connected with fast city developments. Section 1.2 of this chapter concerns the establishing of two new Conasense branches in China and India in 2016 and gives an overview of their activities. Both branches have given full support on the needed "Brain storm" for finding new routes which should lead to real solutions of existing City problems. The third subject gives a summary of all other chapters of this book. |
