Abstract |
The rise of information and communication technologies (ICT) has begun to significantly affect all industries. This impact is also apparent with public administration itself, including city self-governance as a part thereof. Cities attempt to implement a smart city strategy that would bring significant improvements to the quality of life of the population. One of the areas targeted by the smart cities concept is mobility. Reducing CO2 emissions in urban agglomerations is among the basic goals that cities set as part of improving the quality of life. This is where transport has a significant impact on the environment. This article emphasizes the importance of integrating railway stations into the smart city concept. Railway stations, their location, and the availability of other modes of transport are among the key elements in the use of rail transport. It follows from this fact that the smart city concept should also include rail transport if this mode of transport is available in the given city. (C) 2021 The Authors. Published by ELSEVIER B.V. |
