Abstract In view of the low adherence to the transition to a global circular economy, product modularity can be a facilitator in the creation of practices that further contribute to circular business models. While numerous studies have independently explored product modularity and the circular economy, their integration remains inadequately examined. In this context, this study aims to propose an integrative visual tool that represents the benefits and barriers of product modularity that considers the CE strategies of narrowing, closing, slowing, and intensifying product lifecycles. For this, a Delphi study was carried out with academic experts. It was possible to identify the degree of influence of modularity barriers on benefits from the circular economy perspective. The study's results indicate a consensus of experts that modularity can be an enabler for CE through its benefits. Noteworthy barriers impeding modularity's benefits include the absence of public policies aimed at promoting modularity and potential deficits in knowledge and skills concerning modularity among company employees. Identified benefits within the circular economy encompass a reduction in the assembly time of the final product, facilitation of disassembly, innovation and redesign of new products, upgrading, maintenance; reuse; recycling; and, remanufacturing. From these results, an integrative visual tool that represents the benefits and barriers of product modularity for circular business models was proposed. The tool helps companies reflect on their current business model and identify opportunities for innovation towards narrowing, closing, slowing, and intensifying strategies for CE through brainstorming, making it possible for companies also to achieve sustainable development goals.
