Abstract Based on the data of Chinese listed companies from 2007 to 2020, we empirically study the policy effects, mechanisms, and heterogeneity of big data pilot zone (BDP) policy on corporate collaborative green innovation (CCGI) through a difference-in-difference (DID) model. The results show that BDP policy promotes CCGI and this finding is reliable under a series of robustness tests such as placebo tests and considering policy interactions. External supervision is an important mechanism for BDP policy to promote CCGI. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the policy effect is more pronounced for firms with lower financial constraints, state-owned, and in the central and western regions. Our study provides a new perspective for exploring the green innovation effect of digital infrastructure.
