Abstract Toward realizing the sustainable consumption and production (SCP) in Southeast Asia, this paper describes a business-as-usual (BAU) scenario to 2030 by estimating the demand of several kinds of consumer electronics. The focal areas are Vietnam and Thailand, which are typical economically growing countries in Southeast Asia. We use two different approaches - exponential approximation model and Bass-model, to estimate the demand of consumer durables in the target areas. The result reveals that, under the rapid economic growth of Vietnam and Thailand to 2030, the demand for the main consumer durables will increase up to 1,775%. Therefore, to realize the SCP in Southeast Asia, it is necessary to reduce the use of energy and resource by introducing reuse, remanufacturing, and refurbishment in addition to recycling.
